This blog post is a follow-up to my first ever e-commerce product launch. You can find that blog post HERE.
Everything was taking way too long to complete. Some people get locked in a scenario where everything has to be perfect to get started or launch. This is never the case but your brain tricks you into thinking this. It is a normal human reaction. It is a defensive mechanism and it creates a scenario for you to procrastinate due to fear of the unknown.
Learning The Meta Advertising Ropes
Again like I said everything was taking too long to complete because I wanted to launch everything at one time and I wanted it to be “somewhat” perfect. The reason everything was taking much longer than it should have was because I am new to the entire process, because of this everything ends up taking much longer than it should. Like they say you're never good at anything your first time.
I would research my next step and then find out there are 3 more steps to complete before I get to the step I am researching, so I would have to backtrack 3 steps and research. This sometimes would end up with me taking 2-3 steps back again.
Running Meta Facebook and Instagram ads is one of these examples. Meta Business Suite was not even on my radar of knowledge. I started getting into some research through YouTube videos and blogs and found out that there was a lot more I needed to do before I ran my 1st advertisement. For example, Meta has this Pixel thing. What is this pixel thing? Most of you are probably thinking “of course I know what a Facebook Pixel is” but over here, never dealing with any business side of Facebook and being a bit older (43 to be exact), I am not hip to the times I guess.
An Overview Of Facebook (Meta) Pixel
Let's keep it simple:
Imagine you have a little shop on a busy street. Facebook Pixel is like having a friendly counter at your shop that keeps track of your customers. Here's how it works:
Tiny Tracker: You place a tiny piece of code (the pixel) on your website. This doesn't slow down your site or bother your visitors in any way.
Tracks Visitors: When someone visits your site, the pixel recognizes them and remembers their visit.
Customer Info (but not private!): It doesn't track their name or address, but it learns things like what pages they looked at and if they made a purchase.
The Power of Knowing: With this info, you can understand your customers better. You see which products interested them and maybe even those who didn't quite find what they were looking for.
Why is Metal Pixel Useful?
Think of it as having a better understanding of your shop visitors, so you can serve them well and keep them coming back!
The good thing is, once you learn the foundation of something you only need to learn it once. Once you have the foundation set you start adding on small tricks and tweaks to your process, which take much less time.
I finally launched my 1st product (Back Acupressure & Posture Device) July 1st (just over a week ago). The launch included: A blog on my success and motivation site, The Journey: How To E-Commerce - Back Treatment and Muscle Pain Relief, a YouTube video Back Stretcher / Acupressure Treatment, and a Shopify product page on my fitness brand site HealthHQ. All this and I still needed to create Facebook Meta advertisements. I fell short of creating the advertisement for the launch of everything because there was so much learning to do. I took a page from all the successful research I have done over the years. “It’s never going to be perfect, just get started and tweak it along the way,” and this is what I did.
I ended up launching 1 advertisement 4 days later, and then another advertisement a few days after that. Here are my advertisements (now go easy on me these are my first ones and I was just testing the market and my new found knowledge.

My AD Results Are Below
After completing the Facebook and Instagram ads on the Meta Business Suite I posted a few personal posts on LinkedIn of my ads (non-paid) just for additional exposure. And luck would have it I had 2 co-workers see it and go ahead and purchase the product from me!!!! WOW so appreciative and EXCITED. So my Facebook/Instagram Ads were not fruitful for any sales, but my LinkedIn post of the same advertisement WAS A SUCCESS. Some people may read this and say, no this was not a success at all, you didn’t make any money, in fact, you lost money. While this may be true the knowledge I gained from this experience far outweighs my losses.
Now I definitely wasn’t profitable on this product. The Meta advertisements ran for almost 9 days with ZERO sales. I read that video ads are doing really well, but I didn’t have time to create a video ad and only used 2 images. So for my next product launch, I will have 2 to 3 video ads ready and try those.
See you in the next post!
